ACC grills AL MP Aslamul

He denies illegal wealth accumulation

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday interrogated Aslamul Haque, an Awami League MP from Dhaka-14 constituency, for his alleged illegal wealth accumulation.

ACC deputy director Sheikh Mesbah Uddin began integrating Aslamul around 10 am and continued it still 12:30 pm at the ACC head office, sources at the anti-graft body said.

Talking to reporters after the interrogation, Aslamul Haque said his income tax adviser provided wrong information in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission for the 10th parliamentary polls by him.

“All the wealth information mentioned in the affidavit is not mine. I’ve got the power attorney of most of the wealth. In my land property information, it was wrongly mentioned 441 acres instead of 4.41 acres. My legal adviser has made the mistake and I confessed to the ACC today about it,” he said.

Earlier, on February 26, the commission sent a notice to Aslamul asking him to be present in person at the ACC head office to face grilling on the stipulated date.

As per the affidavit submitted to the EC for the last parliamentary polls in 2014, he and his wife had land of over 145 acres worth about Tk two crore.

However, Aslamul in his affidavit submitted to the EC ahead of the 9th parliamentary polls in 2008 had mentioned that he and his wife have 4.19 acres of land worth only Tk 20 lakh.
