Abducted NCC councillor’s body found in Shitalakhya

Police have recovered the body of the abducted councillor of ward 2 of Narayanganj City Corporation, Nazrul Islam, from Shitalakhya river at Kilagachia area in Narayanganj on Wednesday afternoon.

His body was among the three decomposed bodies, which were found floating in Shitalakhya river earlie in the day.

Nazrul’s brother Abdus Salam has identified the body after it was recovered from the river in the afternoon, four days after he was abducted from the Linkroad area of the city.

Police were trying to recover other bodies from the river, said Bandar police station Officer-in-Charge Akhter Morshed.

Earlier in the day, three bodies had been seen floating in the river. Later, one more body has been seen floating in the river.

Locals claimed that the bodies could be of the seven people who were abducted from the city on Sunday.

“The face of one of the bodies was wrapped in a plastic bag and he was wearing a Panjabi. Of the other two bodies, one was wearing a T-shirt while the other was wearing a half-sleeve shirt,” Akhter said.

Nazrul was abducted along with six other people from the Linkroad area of the city on April 27.

Later, a three-member committee led by the additional deputy inspector general of police was formed to investigate the abduction of seven people including the councillor.

Earlier on April 16, businessman Abu Bakar Siddique, also the husband of BELA Chief Executive Syeda Rizwana Hasan, was kidnapped. He was released 30 hours later.

The body of an abducted youth was found on March 7, on the death anniversary of Tanvir Mohammad Twaki who was also found dead after abduction.

Seventeen-year-old Twaki, son of cultural activist and Narayanganj Ganajagaran Mancha Convener Rafiur Rabbi, was found dead two days after he went missing on March 8 last year.
