A tale of a runaway train

Bangladesh-railway

Evoking both horror and surprise among the passengers on board, an inter-district train ran away reverse up to 26 kilometres on the Rajbari-Kushtia section, as the loco master got down to have a tea break at Rajbari railway station, United News of Bangladesh reports.
Rajbari railway station master Kamruzzaman said the incident happened right after the loco master got off the Faridpur-bound train at 8:05am.
Without anyone holding the gear, the train continued running on its own and crossed four stations—Sujanagar, Belgachhi, Kalukhali and Pangsha—before a train ticket checker (TTC) pulled the emergency break through a chain.
The train stopped near Babupara bridge.
Thrilled and feared, the passengers on board discovered the reason behind such a reverse journey after the train stopped at 8:55am.
However, none was injured in the incident, following which the loco master Mohammad Ali and guard Suvash Chandra Sharma were suspended.
The authorities have formed a five-member probe committee to investigate the awkward incident.
GRP officer-in-charge Sunil Kumar Ghosh confirmed the incident.
