8 involved in Hindu priest murder: Police

Police seize two pistols, five rounds of bullets, the two magazines, three knives and three crude bombs from a residence in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh.

Police on Friday said a total of eight people were involved in the murder of the Hindu priest who was killed in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh on 21 February.

Rangpur police deputy inspector general (DIG) Humayun Kabir said this at a press conference in Debiganj police station in the morning.

The Rangpur DIG said they have indentified the killers of the priest and six among those eight have so far been nabbed. He is hopeful the other two will be caught soon.

At the press conference, the police boss said three members of JMB were detained in a drive at a residence in the upazila today (Friday) in connection with the murder.

However, police did not unveil identities of those three for the sake of investigation.

Earlier on 22 February, police also held three people – two suspected members of the JMB and a Shibir man – in connection with the killing.

On 21 February, unidentified people hacked Jogeshwar Roy, 50, principal of the Hindu monastery in the upazila.

The miscreants also shot Gopal Chandra Roy, 35, a devotee at the Hindu temple.

The victim, Jaggweshwar Roy, was the founder principal of Santo Gaurio Monastery founded in 1988 on the West side of Karotoa Bridge of the upazila headquarters.
