7 killed in Gopalganj road accident, one each at Munshiganj, Chuadanga

At least nine people, including six of a family, were killed while two others injured in separate road accidents in Gopalganj, Munshiganj and Chuadanga on Saturday.
In Gopalganj, six members of a family were among seven killed in a head-on collision between a microbus and a battery-run three-wheeler on Gopalganj-Kotalipara road in Sadar upazila.
Another family member was also injured in the accident.
Locals said, the accident took place at Shibpur around 10:15am when the two vehicles collided, leaving one rider of the three-wheeler dead on the spot.
The driver of the three-wheeler, Swapan Sardar, 35, and five of its passengers died on their way to and at Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital.
The victims were – Katebunnesa 70, Khokon Shikder, 45, his wife China Begum, 38, their daughters Anne, 16, and Chadni, 8, and Khokon’s nephew Sakib, 13. All of them were the residents of Sadar upazila.
Police seized the microbus but its driver fled, said Md Selim Reza, officer-in-charge of Gopalganj sadar police station.
In Munshiganj, a pedestrian was run over by a bus on Dhaka-Mawa highway in Degasi bus stand.
The agitating people vandalised the bus of DM Paribahan after the accident.
Its driver managed to flee the scene.
Locals said the speedy bus ran over Sirajul Islam, 55, of Srinagar upazila, who was standing beside the road around 10:00am. He died on the spot.
In Chuadanga, a man was killed and another injured in a road accident on Jhenaidah-Chuadanga road in Sadar upazila, United News of Bangladesh reports.
The victim was Shafi Uddin, 24, son of Azizul Haque of Buliarpur village in Alamdanga upazila of the district, and the injured was Khairul Islam of Aramdanga in Jhenaidah district.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, Leyakat Hossain, said the accident took place around 8:00am when a truck collided with a human hauler on the road at Subdia, leaving human-hauler passengers Shafi dead on the spot and Khairul injured.
