60 indicted for Aminbazar killings

A Dhaka court on Monday indicted 60 accused for the Aminbazar tragedy where six students were killed two years ago.

Dhaka Second Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Helaluddin gave the ruling and set Aug 25 for commencing hearing.

Additional Public Prosecutor Ananda Chandra Biswas told bdnews24.com that 30 of the 60 indicted were out on bail, five were in prison and the remaining 25 were on the run.

Those on bail and in prison were present before the court. They pleaded innocent, but the Judge out ruled them.

On 17th July 2011, six students were lynched at Keblar Char near Bordeshi village. Among them, one Al Amin had escaped the attack.

Later a judicial inquiry found the students innocent.

Police filed a case against 60 people last year and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed charge sheet against the accused on Jan 13 last year.

The charge sheet said the accused had lynched six students.

Fourteen of the accused had confessed their involvement in the crime.

There are 96 witnesses in the case. 11 evidences have been produced.

Though a judicial probe found the students’ innocent, local sand trader Malek filed a lawsuit against them alleging them to be robbers.

Police filed a final report on that case as it did not find any evidence in support of Malek’s allegation. Court had directed to sue Malek for filing a false case.
