6 DU students held for ‘abducting’ businessman

Police have arrested seven people, including six Dhaka University students, for allegedly abducting a businessman form Fakirapul area on Thursday night.

Shahabag police station Sub Inspector Shimul Kumar Mohonto told the Dhaka Tribune: “Family members complained that the DU students abducted businessman Farhad Islam form Fakirapul area on Thursday night and locked him in a room of Jagannath Hall.

Acting on the information, we tracked the phone calls of the abductors and rescued the businessman on Friday afternoon form the hall,” he added.

“A case has been filed against seven persons, including the six DU students.”

The seventh person, who was not a DU student, was the prime accused of the case, said Mohonto.

While contacted, Jagannath Hall Provost Ashawim Kumar told the Dhaka Tribune that he did not know anything about the incident as he was outside on Thursday.

DU Proctor Amzad Ali said: “I have informed about it and punitive action will be taken against the accused after investigation.”

Accroding to family members and police the abductors have demanded ransom from the family members.
