5 of a family die in Chittagong fire

Five members of a family have been killed as their house in Sarkarhat area of Hathazari upazila caught fire on Sunday night.

The deceased were identified as Rosi Aktar, 35, her daughters Rina Aktar, 12, Sina Aktar, 10, Jhuma Aktar, 7, and son Maruf, 5.

Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Chittagong fire service, confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the deaths.

He said fire originated at the house around 8:25pm, leaving the five burnt to death.

The fire was doused around 9:30pm. But the cause of the flame could not be known immediately, he added.

Officer in Charge of Hathazari police station, Md Ismail said, short circuit might have caused the fire that gutted the tin-shed house of Mahbubul Alam, a vegetable seller.

‘The dead bodies were being sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy’, he added.

The police officer confirmed the fire didn’t spread to the neighboring houses.
