Fifteen Asian workers, including four Bangladeshis, were killed while 14 others injured in a fatal road accident in Dubai on Saturday.

“Among the deceased, 11 are Indians while four Bangladesh nationals,” AKM Mizanur Rahman, First Secretary (Labour), Dubai Consulate, told UNB over phone.

Among the injured, nine are Bangladeshis while five Indians, said the official adding that five injured Bangladeshis were released after first aid.

“The condition of three injured Bangladeshis is stable while another is in critical state and has been put in ICU,” Rahman added.

Responding to a question, he said they are in touch with officials concerned there and representatives of local companies for completing the necessary formalities for sending back the bodies and realising compensations.

“It’ll take two to three days to complete all the formalities, and the bodies will soon be sent to Bangladesh,” he added.

The accident occurred when the bus they were travelling rammed into a parked truck on a road shoulder. The bus was carrying 29 workers when it hit the truck.

The two drivers, both Pakistani nationals who survived the crash, have been placed under provisional detention, local media quoted Salah Bu Farousha, Senior Chief Prosecutor and Head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution, as saying.

The bus crashed after the Dubai Club Bridge on Emirates Road in the direction of Al Ruwaiyah.
