3 IU assistant proctors resign

Three assistant proctors of Islamic University (IU) have resigned from their posts following prolonged stalemate on the campus.

The assistant proctors — Anwarul Wahab, Anisur Rahman and Abu Hena Mostafa Jamal Happy — submitted their resignation letters on Saturday.

“I have resigned as no congenial atmosphere is prevailing at the university to work,” Anisur Rahman told The Daily Star.

Dr Moslem Uddin, registrar of the university, has confirmed their resignation. “I have received their resignation letters today (Tuesday) noon.”

The registrar said they have mentioned personal grounds behind their resignation.

“But the university was yet to officially accept their resignations,” the registrar told our Kushtia correspondent.

At least 25 teachers of Islamic University sustained minor injuries when BCL activists attacked a peaceful sit-in organised by the university teachers association on Monday.

According to sources, the stalemate erupted after a university syndicate meeting on September 7 appointed 132 teachers including VC’s daughter and other staff against 76 posts.
