Bangladesh footballers, currently staying in Indonesia for the Asian Games 2018, have broadened their hands for the support of victims of the Lombok earthquake tragedy by donating their Olympic match fees Wednesday.

The Bangladesh Olympic team, who played their opening Asian Games match Tuesday, handed over a percentage of their match fees and daily allowances to Endri Foundation for the “Lombok Forgotten Children” at the team hotel in Sentul City in Bogor Wednesday afternoon.

Bogor is around a thousand kilometers away from Lombok, the Indonesian Island that was rocked by a deadly earthquake over a week ago, but the shadow of the tragedy can be seen all over the country.

“We have been treated extremely well by the Indonesian people since arriving and with the unfortunate situation that has happened in Lombok, the players wanted to give something back to show their appreciation,” said Bangladesh team’s English head coach Jamie Day to Dhaka Tribune.

The death toll from the earthquake passed 430 two days ago and the Indonesian government is estimating that economic losses will exceed several hundred million dollars.

In such circumstances, the country is hosting the biggest sports event in Asia, the 18th Asiad, which will be officially inaugurated Saturday with the participation of around a thousand athletes from 42 countries, including 162 athletes in 14 disciplines from Bangladesh.
