Awami League did not let BNP senior officials into voting centres, threatened people in their homes, and made sure women voters do not attend, BNP alleges

BNP says 40 voting centres in 19 wards were taken over by ruling party supporters during the Khulna City Corporation elections, and that they cast fake votes for their party.

The party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the allegation at a press conference at BNP’s Naya Paltan headquarters Tuesday afternoon.

“Ever since the announcement of the election schedule, the jubilant reactions of Awami League supporters made the outcome of the election very clear. Now everyone can see what the situation is,” he said.

“Right after voting began, boat supporters started showing their true colours. They did not let BNP senior officials into voting centres, threatened the officials after going to their homes, and made sure women voters do not attend the election – realizing their dreams for a biased election,” he added.

Rizvi also said pro-government TV stations were showing discrepancies such as fake voting ongoing at several voting stations.

“Despite all the issues and allegations being sent to local election officials, they seem to be working on the side of the government. They have given up their constitutional responsibilities and sworn allegiance to the government,” Rizvi added.

“The current situation is an example of the audacity and power of Awami League’s armed thugs,” the senior joint secretary stated.
