Allegations of killing two more people and dumping their bodies into rivers have been brought against the members of Rapid Action Battalion-11 in the district.

The Rab members picked up Hossain Showkat, a land property trader of Siddhirganj, and Tajul Islam, a clinic owner of Sonargaon, and murdered them before throwing their bodies into the rivers, the families of the victims said.

They came up with the allegation during a human chain formed in front of Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office on Sunday noon.

With tears-soaked eyes, the victims’ families demanded capital punishment for the accused Rab members, including three sacked Rab officials — Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana.

Earlier on Saturday, family members of a local Awami League activist Mohammad Ismail, 42, alleged that the Rab-11 members pick up him and demanded Tk two crore for his release.

Besides, family of Nazrul Islam, one of the victims of the recent seven murders, alleged that some Rab men killed the former city panel mayor in exchange for Tk six crores from suspects including city councilor Nur Hossain.

Later, three Rab officials – Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad and Major Arif Hossain, Lt Commander MM Rana—were sent on forced retirement for their alleged involvement in the gruesome incident.

The trio are now on police remand.

  1. It is heart-breaking to see the affliction of the people whose near and dear ones have been murdered by the Awami brutal forces. We cannot see the end of it unless the people rise and resist these evil forces. With each passing day, the skies over Bangladesh is turning dark and gloomy and the air thicker and thicker with grief. How can we quietly observe this brutality? Something must be done, and done now!

  2. I fully agree with nh1 – time for people to rise and act.

However, I am also appalled by the fact that these tragic events that have either been organized by government itself or have happened right under its watch have not so far succeeded in uniting and condemning in one voice such acts of thuggery and demand ouster of this illegitimate murderous government. What kind of society do we live in and indeed, what kind of people have we become. How many more have to be killed or do we have to wait till our own kith and kin are killed before we start taking notice?

Current state of Bangladesh’s moral numbness is worse than that of the kingdom of beasts.
