2 Chhatra League leaders detained over Buet student Abrar’s death

Two leaders of Buet unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student front of ruling Awami League, have been detained on Monday for their suspected involvement in the death of Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The detainees are – General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Rasel and Vice-President Muttakim Fuhad.

“We have detained them for interrogating over Abrar’s death,” said Chawkbazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sohrab Hossain.

Meanwhile, several hundred students of Dhaka University, led by Ducsu Vice-President Nurul Haque Nur, brought out a procession on the campus protesting the death of Abrar (21), a resident of Sher-E-Bangla residential hall

He was pronounced dead around 3am by Buet Medical Officer Dr Md Mashuk Elahi. General students are suspecting that he has been beaten to death.

Meanwhile, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the perpetrators will face actions.

“You can’t just beat someone to death for having a different opinion,” he told reporters at Secretariat. “The authorities concerned have been asked to take steps in this regard.”
