2 bombs exploded near Sonargaon Hotel

Players of Asia Cup cricket are staying in the hotel

Two crude bombs have been exploded on the entrance of Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel on Wednesday night leaving a mystery.

Police and witnesses said both the crude bombs have been exploded at around 10:00pm inside the main gate of the hotel creating heavy sounds and smokes as well as panic among the people in and around the hotel.

However, no casualty was reported in the explosions, said police.

The incident took place few hours after the match between India and Bangladesh ended.

Sources said cricket players, who have come to Bangladesh to take part in the ongoing ‘Asia Cup’, from different countries, alongside a number of officials from the ICC were staying in the hotel.

According to witnesses, soon after the explosions, a huge contingent of forces kept the place cordoned around while additional forces were deployed in and around the hotel.

Witnesses said unidentified criminals riding a motorcycle sped away hurling two crude bombs at the hotel premises repeatedly.

Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Ramna police station, said: “Players from five countries– India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh—have been staying in the hotel.”

The OC, however, claimed:  “Two sounds were heard, but we are yet sure of whether these were explosions of bombs as a bridal function is also being held in the hotel.”

“Although none was hurt, but we are trying to find out the cause of the explosions and unveil the mystery behind the explosions,” the OC said.
