12 to hang for killing Tangail college student

A Tangail court today sentenced 12 persons to death for murdering a college student named Rajan over land dispute in Bhuapur back in 2014.

Senior Special Judge Waheduzzaman Shikder of Special Judge Court in Tangail delivered the verdict this noon, our Tangail correspondent reports.

The convicts are: Mozid, Abdul Mazid, Saidul, Maznu, Momin, Nizam, Abu Bakar, Hanu, Nurul Islam, Babu, Siraj and Wahab. Among them Mozid, Abdul Mazid Hanu and Nurul Islam are on the run.

According to prosecution, following a previous enmity over land dispute, the 12 convicts entered the house of Lal Miah in Bhuapur upazila in the morning on April 13, 2014 and hacked his son Rabiul Islam Rajan, 24, with sharp weapons.

Seriously injured, Rajan was immediately rushed to the Bhuapur Upazila Health Complex. Later he succumbed to injuries on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

On the next day, Rajan’s mother Shahida Begum filed a murder case with Bhuapur Police Station accusing 18 people in this regard. After investigation, police pressed charges against the 12.
