100 dble-decker, 50 articulated buses to be procured for BRTC: Minister

A process is on to procure 100 more double-decker and 50 articulated buses for state-owned BRTC under the Indian Line of Dollar Credit to reduce the traffic congestion in Dhaka.

 

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday stated this in Parliament replying to a starred question of Md Rezaul Haq Chowdhury (Kusthia-1).

 

The Minister said that during the 2009-2013, the government procured a total of 958 buses from China, Korea and India.

 

Of these buses, 530 were CNG-run single-deckers, 290 double-deckers, 50 articulated and 88 single-decker AC buses, he added.

 

Responding to another starred question of M Israfil Alam (Naogaon-6), Obaidul Quader said that Bangladesh Roads and Highways Department incurred loss of Tk 11.25 crore while Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) incurred loss of Tk 58.27 crore due to various ‘destructive activities by the BNP led 18-party alliance’.
