A Chittagong court on Monday fixed January 30 for delivering verdict in two cases related to the recovery of 10-truck arms and ammunition.

Chittagong Metropolitan Special Tribunal 1 Judge SM Mojibur Rahman fixed the date for announcing the much-awaited verdict in the cases after completion of verbal arguments by the defence lawyers.

Earlier, Judge SM Mojibur Rahman of Chittagong Metropolitan Special Tribunal 1 ordered the defence lawyers to complete their argument by Monday, while Kamal Uddin Ahmed concluded his argument on Sunday.

The PP, however, sought two more days for submitting his elaborate argument in written form, which was granted by the court.

On April 2, 2004, the police seized 4,930 types of sophisticated firearms, 27,020 grenades, 840 rocket launchers, 300 rockets, 2,000 grenade launching tubes, 6,392 magazines and 11,40,520 bullets when they were being loaded on to 10 trucks from two engine-boats at the jetty of the Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Limited (CUFL).

Ahadur Rahman, the then Karnaphuli police officer-in-charge, filed the two cases on April 3, 2004 in connection with the incident, which were transferred to the criminal investigation department of police after 22 days.

The CID on June 26, 2011 submitted supplementary charge sheets following further investigation into the cases on a court directive.

Former industries minister Nizamee, former state minister for home Babar, former director generals of National Security Intelligence Maj Gen (retd) Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury and Brig Gen (retd) Abdur Rahim, former NSI directors Wing Commander (retd) Shahabuddin Ahmed and Maj (retd) Liakat Hossain, and field officer Akbar Hossain, former managing director of CUFL Mohshin Talukder and its former general manager AKM Enamul Haque have remained behind the bars in the cases.
