16 others killed in road accidents in 7 other districts

At least 10 people were killed and two others severely injured when a microbus lost its control and rammed into a tree in Habiganj.

The incident occurred at the Nabiganj area of Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Habiganj last morning, confirmed Sherpur Highway police OC Ershadul Haque.

Eight of the deceased are Abbas Uddin an IFIC Bank employee from Pagla area of Narayanganj district, his sons Emon, 27, and Rabbi, 24, their close relatives Mohsin, 30, Rajib, 28, Sumona, 34, and Asma Akhter, 30, and a child named Khadija from Chadpara area of Barisal district.

They were on their way to Sunamganj for Emon’s engagement.

The injured were admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

The police OC said the driver of the microbus lost its control and hit a tree, which caused the casualties. The number of deaths could increase.

16 others killed in 7 districts

At least 16 people were killed and eight others were injured in road accidents across the country from Thursday night till last night.

In Dhaka, a university student was killed when a bus rammed into his motorcycle in Banani area last night.

The deceased, Faysal Ahmed, 28, was a student of Dhaka University, confirmed Banani police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Kayum.

In Brahmanbaria, six people were killed and four others injured as a microbus caught fire after collision with a bus on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Rampur Bhati in Bijoynagar upazila in the early hours of on Friday.

Four of the deceased were identified as Sohan, 20, Sagar, 22, Rifat, 16, and Emon, 14.

Mainul Islam, Biswaroad Highway police OC, said the Sylhet-bound microbus from Narayanganj caught fire after it collided with a Dhaka-bound bus of “Limon Paribahan” around 3:30am.

In Savar, a police constable was killed when a truck ran over him on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Ulail early on Friday, reports UNB.

The deceased Akash Ahmed, 22, of Ashulia was posted at Narayanganj District Police Lines, confirmed Savar Highway police OC Abdullah Hel Baki.

In Feni, two motorcyclists were killed when a motorbike fell into a ditch beside an under-construction bridge on Sonagazi-Feni regional highway on Thursday night.

The deceased are Azizul Haque Shahed, 32 and Mohamamd Babul Mia, 28 of Jorarganj area in Chittagong, confirmed Moin Uddin, Sonagazi police station OC.

In Mymensingh, two people were killed and two others injured when a mini-truck crashed into another truck in Meherabari area of Bhaluka on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

The deceased are Razon Robid, 45, driver of the mini-truck and his assistant Azim Uddin, 25, confirmed Al Mahmud Adnan, in-charge of Bhoradona highway police outpost.

In Comilla, a man died at the Jhinglatoli area of Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Daudkandi after an unidentified vehicle ran over his motorcycle.

The deceased is yet to be identified, said Daudkandi Highway police SI Shahdat Hossain.

In Panchagarh, two children died in separate road accidents in Vajanpur and Jagdal-Debnagar area on Friday.

The deceased are Rajiul Islam, 5, and Moyori Akter, 16, confirmed Panchagargh Sadar police OC Abu Akkas Ahmed.

In Naogaon, a man died when a battery-run autorickshaw lost control and fell in a ditch at Atrai upazila on Friday.

The deceased is Md Motalib, 55, a former local UP member, said Atrai police OC Moslem Uddin.
