10 died by Indian landslide

150 people are feared trapped

At least 10 people has died and 150 people are feared trapped after a landslide at the village of Malin of Pune district under Maharashtra in western India, BCC reported.

The district administration fears that the death toll may increase further.

At least 40 houses have been buried in the landslide caused due to heavy rains, the report said.

Malin is located some 60km (37 miles) from the city of Pune south-east of Mumbai, India’s commercial capital and the region has been witnessing heavy downpour for the last two days.

The rescue operations have been taken up on a war front, authorities said.

Some 100 rescue workers were on the way to the area, an official of India’s National Disaster Response Force told the BBC.

The Associated Press news agency said rescue workers were being hampered by rains and poor roads leading to the spot.

An official said residents had already begun clearing the debris to look for survivors.

Landslides are common in some parts of India during the monsoon rains, which run from June to September.
